Reading
Listen to the assigned read aloud, Panda Kindergarten, by Joanne Ryder on YouTube. Click on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuckSLZhagY to watch. After reading, think of 2 examples to show that when pandas are together, it's like kindergarten. Sample answer - When pandas are together, it's like kindergarten because pandas and kindergarteners make new friends. Please remind them to use text evidence when coming up with their reasons. (See Identify Reasons-Panda Kindergarten under Parent Resources - How to Help at Home -Reading for template).
Listen to the storybook video, The Little Red Hen, by Paul Galdone on YouTube. Click on www.youtube.com to watch. After listening to the video, have your child complete Compare Characters-Little Red Hen & Friends worksheet (See Parent Resources - How to Help at Home -Reading for template). They must compare and contrast the experiences of the characters (Little Red Hen and Friends). For example, a similarity might be that the little red hen and her friends want to eat cake and a difference might be that the little red hen works hard and her friends do not work. Remember, the differences need to be matching. Please have them try and come up with 2 similarities and 2 differences. Review how to use a Venn Diagram if necessary.
Select 2 fiction or nonfiction books on you child's instructional reading level and practice reading fluency and comprehension (Reading A-Z - Leveled Readers & Epic have all reading levels). You can check the level of the readers they have been bringing home to know their instructional level. If they begin reading say level B pretty well, you can have them practice on level C. Level C is where they should be when they leave kindergarten.
Sight Words
Students should continue learning all 68 sight words. If your child has mastered all 68, they should move on to the Fry's list that is accessible on the class website. Flash cards are a good way to practice.

You can choose to write a narrative, informational or opinion writing.
