Dear Parents,
Thank you for all your patience, love, and support during this time of Distance Learning. I'm so proud of all your efforts to teach your children at home. As for myself, I will continue to learn more technology to make my teaching more effective in the future.
My heart is sad knowing that I will not be able to physically see your children at the end of this school year. I get emotional just thinking about it. I pray that I will be able to see them soon, when it is safe to do so. In the meantime, I will keep them close to my heart and in my thoughts.
I will leave the website accessible to you until mid-July. Please use whatever resources you want. I have also uploaded a Summer 2020 Packet (See Parent Resources - How to Help at Home - Summer) as well as additional fun activities that you can do at home (See Below).

Sight Words
- Students should continue learning all 68 sight words. If your child has mastered all 68, they should move on to the Fry's 100 list that is accessible on the class website. Flash cards are a good way to practice.
Reading
Review/Practice the following:
- Name and define the roles of the author and illustrator
- Know the difference between a fiction and nonfiction text
- Retell stories including character, setting, problem, and solution. If there is no problem and solution, then tell the events in order (See Parent Resources - How to Help at Home - Reading for retell template).
- Ask and answer questions about key details in a text (fiction and nonfiction)

Practice writing narrative, informative, and opinion pieces (See Parent Resources - How to Help at Home- Writing for writing template and examples of the 3 genres of writing).
Math
- Stepping Stones Practice Book Worksheets
- Create addition and subtraction word problems within 10 using the QDPAC process. You may create a word problem for them or they can think of their own word problem to write and solve (See 2/15/20 QDPAC Blog Post for examples).
- Fluently add and subtract within 5 (If your child has mastered these facts, go on to fluently adding and subtracting within 10, this is the first grade standard.
- Count orally by ones and tens to 120 (or higher), this is the first grade standard.
